Course breakdown:
Introduction to web design Weeks 1-7
You’ll cover design theory for digital media including: advanced Photoshop production and compositing, Illustrator and typography for the web, logo design, brand development, online advertising techniques, graphic, interface, navigation, and interaction design, usability and information architecture and web optimization and implementation.
Front-end design and development, SEO skills Weeks 8-15
Increase your skills in front-end design and development, such as: producing semantic website mark-up (XHTML, CSS), web scripting (JavaScript, jQuery), front-end design and development (including interface design and implementation) and search engine optimization (SEO)
Flash and ActionScript Weeks 16-25
Centered around the Flash software, your learning will include: designing and producing immersive, interactive and functional Flash applications for web and Kiosk implementation, audio production, Flash animation, audio and video integration programming, ActionScript 3.0 for games and interactivity, and creating dynamic Flash websites that allow for XML data driven Flash applications
PHP and Content Management Systems Weeks 26-32
You’ll work with leading edge Content Management software and learn techniques to create editable and search engine friendly websites for clients. Includes the integration of various media and technology to produce functional, industry standard PHP, MySQL and WordPress based web applications.
Production and management Weeks 33-40
In the countdown to the end, you’ll cover digital media production and processes including: project briefs, quoting and client management, project management and milestones, design and development workflow, usability testing and industry practices and group work.
Entry requirements:
Age:
Minimum 17 years (domestic) and 18 years (international)
Prerequisites:
A design/art background and an intermediate level of computer knowledge and graphical software (such as Photoshop). Knowledge of scripting languages and HTML is preferred.
Portfolio Requirements:
Relevant visual work such as graphic design work, illustrations, digital imagery and photography. The school can provide a relevant design-based task sheet to demonstrate competency if you have no existing portfolio work.
